West M-20 Office 
(Located on Remus Road/High Street)

Updated Look: If you haven't been to the West M-20 office on Remus Road (aka High Street) you should check it out. While other businesses chose to leave the area, ICCU is one of a handful of businesses to retain a service presence on the "West side."

To serve member-owners who live and work in the area, ICCU has invested in facility improvements to create a quality business atmosphere at its West M20 office, to match the Isabella Road location. Inside you will find an updated lobby, a new seating area, teller counters and a check writing center.

 

Outside, new signage and new drive-thru equipment was added featuring new pneumatic tubest with both a low and high call buttons for taller vehicles (and arms!)  

The staff at the West M-20 office are focused on service, and are ready to help!

Membership Eligibility
To qualify for membership in Isabella Community Credit Union, you must meet ICCU's field of membership requirements.

If you live or work in Isabella, Osceola, Clare, Gladwin, Midland, Gratiot, Montcalm and Mecosta Counties in Michigan you are eligible to join ICCU.

Also, if you are a relative of a current ICCU member, you qualify for membership in Isabella Community Credit Union.


Information Regarding Opening a New Account

To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account.

What this means to you:  When you open an account, we will ask for your name, street address, mailing address (if different), date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you.  We will also ask to see (and copy) your driver's license and/or other identifying documents.

Isabella Community Credit Union - History

A group of school employees founded what was originally called, "School Employees of Isabella County Credit Union (SEICCU)" on February 10, 1958, at the Mount Pleasant High School.  That first year, the credit union had 82 members and $4,900 in assets. 

Since that time, the credit union, now known as Isabella Community Credit Union (ICCU), has expanded its charter to include all of Isabella County and the surrounding area.  ICCU has grown to nearly 14,500 members and $70 million in assets, serving eight counties, including the Mt. Pleasant educational community.  

Here are some of your credit union's highlights:

1958 - School Employees of Isabella County Credit Union (SEICCU)founded • 82 members, $4,900 in assets.
1964 - Office moved to board member Isabel Catlett's kitchen on Lansing Street • 447 members, $126,000 in assets.
1966 - Name changed to Isabella Governmental Employee Credit Union (IGECU) • 639 members, $227,000 in assets.
1975 - Name changed to Isabella Employees Credit Union (IECU) • 3,747 members, $3,351,000 in assets.
1976 - First checking account product offered to members called a "share draft" account.
1977 - IECU opened new office at 2770 West High Street (Remus Road), which is now ICCU's branch office.
1980 - 210 South Mission Street branch location opens for service • 8,200 members, $9.4 million in assets.
1982 - Merged with Clare Governmental Employees Credit Union, expanding service to the Clare area.
1984 - Name change to: Isabella Community Credit Union (ICCU) • 10,200 members, $13.7 million in assets.
1987 - Isabella Community Credit Union grows to 17,912 members and $25.9 million in assets.
2002 - Jay Anders hired as President/CEO.  Membership drops to 15,062 due to intentional inactive account "clean up."  
2004 - ICCU serves 13,800 members in the mid Michigan area and reaches $49.2 million in assets. 
2005 - First Student-Run Credit Union at the Mt. Pleasant High School opens serving students, teachers, facility & staff.
2006 - Charter changed to serve Clare, 
Gladwin, Gratiot, Midland, Montcalm, Mecosta and Osceola counties. 
2007 - July 10th - Groundbreaking ceremony held for new main office on Isabella Road in Mt. Pleasant, MI.   
2008 - February 19th - ICCU's new state-of-the-art new main office opens at 2400 S. Isabella Road. 
May 7th - Grand Opening Celebration for ICCU's new main office at 2400 South Isabella Road.
November 2008 - ICCU does not have a 1st mortgage loan in default; mortgage crisis looms. ICCU is safe! 
 
2009 - ICCU receives a five star safety rating from Bauer Financial.  Assets = $62 million.   
2010
Assets reach $70 million.  Financial crisis continues, and ICCU remains safe and sound.  Benefits Plus checking introduced.

Why We Do What We Do:  Credit Union Philosophy
Isabella Community Credit Union has always looked out for the best interest of its member-owners. This is done in many ways, like all cooperatives by turning the profits (earnins) of the credit union back to its members in the form of lower fees and service charges, and competitive interest rates.  In addition, a full range of financial services, using many of the latest technologies, is made available at little or no cost to ICCU members. 

As a not-for-profit financial cooperative, ICCU is in business for its member-owners.  As a result, ICCU members receive some of the best service, rates, and products available - at the lowest cost. In true credit union fashion, ICCU led the way to bring FREE checking to the Mount Pleasant area, and in 2010 Benefits Plus Checking combining money saving discounts with a local merchant component to support the communities in which we do business.  With great rates, low fees, and a full range of financial services, including free Internet account access, and  online bill payment, it is easy to understand why ICCU believes the smartest consumers are credit union members!

Credit Union Uniqueness: 
Credit Union Annual Membership Meetings

As member-owned cooperative, credit unions around the world operate as financial cooperatives (co-ops).   Credit Union owners also have a VOICE and a VOTE at the Annual Membership Meeting.  Whether in a hut in the mountains of Afghanistan, or in a board room in Michigan, owners have a say in how their cooperative functions.   The Annual Meeting is a good pleace to learn about your credit union, and participate in the democratic process that is unique to credit unions.

Members (in good standing) can attend the Annual Membership Meeting and cast a ballot (vote) to elect the Board of Directors who will help determine credit union policies and procedures. 

Consumers are invited to submit their name for consideration to run for available seats on the Board of Directors each year.  In order to keep the ICCU Board functioning smoothly, three of 12 seats are open each year.   The positions on the board of directors are VOLUNTEER opportunities.  Credit Union board members are unpaid volunteers.  The deadline to submit names is 30 days prior to the Annual Meeting.

53rd Annual Membership Meeting
              Wednesday, March 17, 2010 • 6:00 p.m.               
All Isabella Community Credit Union (ICCU) members are welcome and invited to attend. 
Only members in "good standing" are eligible to vote.                                                                                                                                                                                      
                                                 

Details on volunteer opportunites: If you are interested in running for a three-year term on the volunteer ICCU Board of Directors, you may request a nominating form.  The nominating form must be completed at least 30 days prior to the Annual Meeting date. 

Once the form has been returned, the Nominating Committee will review it for proper procedure and current ICCU membership. Upon validation, the committee will review the qualifications of each candidate.  Then, it shall be the Nominating Committee's duty to formally nominate, by inclusion on the balltot, one candidate for each position.  Nominations may also be made from the floor.

Although nominations may be made from the floor, it is preferrable to have all potential candidates listed on the ballot, and a brief resume of candidates distributed to the membership in attendance at the meeting.  In the event that only one person is nominated for each vacancy, the Secretary may cast a unanimous ballot, and each candidate will win his/her seat.

All election voting and announcements will be conducted at the ICCU Annual Membership Meeting typically held in March and/or April of each year.

 

Cooperation Amongst Cooperatives (Co-ops)
Credit Unions are member-owned cooperatives - often called co-op (prounounced as two words co-op; not coop like in chickens).  
A co-op is an organization owned and operated for the benefit of those who use it (the members).  Cooperatives world-wide function using similiar International Cooperative Principles, which include:

- Open and Voluntary Membership
- Democratic Member Contral (one member/one vote)
- Cooperation Amongst Coopertives
- Concern for the Community
- Volunteer Driven (board and committee members are volunteers )
